What is Lossless Scaling?

  • Lossless Scaling allows you to scale windowed games to full screen using the state-of-the-art scaling algorithms, as well as use ML based proprietary scaling and frame generation.
  • The latest feature allows you to use Lossless Scaling to generate additional frames in games that do not have such support, including emulators.
  • Lossless Scaling is also useful for upscaling modern games if you cannot run them at native screen resolution (GPU limited) and want to get rid of blur due to bilinear scaling of the GPU driver, as well as for upscaling older and pixel-art games which do not support modern screen resolutions or full screen mode.

Why it benefits low spec gaming

  • If you're already maxxed out, why would it benefit low spec gamers?
  • Frame generation is lighter than fully rendering new frames
  • So, you can frame gen more frames than you can just using those resources to generate real frames
  • Maybe you lower your graphics settings a little bit, as well, to free up GPU resources to generate more frames than you could generate rendered frames

How To Use Lossless Scaling

Example using Steam GTR2:

  1. Bought Lossless Scaling on Steam
  2. Started Lossless Scaling
  3. Added a GTR2 profile in Lossless Scaling: Just find your GTR2.exe
  4. Set the multiplier eg. 1x, 2x, 4x, etc.
  5. Start GTR2
  6. Alt-tab back to Lossless Scaling and click the Scale button, it will take 5 seconds and activate on the in-focus app so in the meantime alt-tab back to GTR2
  7. By default you should see an FPS counter in the top-left showing native frame rate and generated frame rate eg. "30 / 60"

Recording Videos

  • I was unable to capture the true fluidity and visuals I was experiencing first hand when using Lossless Scaling frame generation. I don't know if that's just OBS but I bet it's every recording software.
