Initial Impressions by Shovas
- Startup and Onboarding:
- Startup onboarding is decent, asks for first name and last name, then displays the main screen which looks clean but a little outdated, which is understandable
- Handling, Physics, and Tires Simulation:
- Once I got settled in with controls and FFB, I did start to feel the simulation underneath it all. Handling and physics felt as decent as rFactor 1-level isiMotor games can feel.
- I can't say much about tires yet, they seem to have decent grip and communicate well enough through FFB.
- FFB:
- They seem to be relying on a centering force (default 100%) to make up a lack of gyro or pneumatic force (big center deadzone with centering force disabled)
- Now that I've got ffb sorted I can feel there's a simulation here. Not sure it's true but I heard about some connection to AMS1 so maybe that's what's underneath it.
- Visuals:
- Graphics engine is unity
- Great car and cockpit modelling, track modeling not so much
- Driver hands animated up to 300deg, more than some sims can say
- Head physics is weird, disabled by default though that's good
- Trivia:
- Trackwalk mode let's you walk around the track with ASWD controls
- Suggestions:
- Setting up controls was rough. The basics are there but don't have the usability of assigning controls in modern sims.
- Setting up FFB could be better. Practical defaults for common hardware would be greatly appreciated. Crowdsource from your beta testers if you have to.
- Low rendering quality in mirrors hurts first impressions
- Onboarding users should be polished more before launch. First impressions are key. Everything should be as smooth as possible.
- Default FOV completely loses sense of speed, even to the detriment of knowing you should break earlier for turns. Default FOV should be adjusted to increase sense of speed.
- Offline play should allow exiting even while car is moving
- Other Thoughts:
- I'm happy for them, great to see new country-themed sims that hopefully serve their motorsports scene, tracks, series, simracers, and fans
