  • USBDeview is a small utility that lists all USB devices that currently connected to your computer, as well as all USB devices that you previously used.
  • For each USB device, extended information is displayed: Device name/description, device type, serial number (for mass storage devices), the date/time that device was added, VendorID, ProductID, and more...
  • USBDeview also allows you to uninstall USB devices that you previously used, disconnect USB devices that are currently connected to your computer, as well as to disable and enable USB devices.
  • You can also use USBDeview on a remote computer, as long as you login to that computer with admin user.

Tips

Sim Peripherals Often Interfere With Controllers Especially Older Games

  • tl;dr Disable USB sim peripherals to use a controller with problematic games either by unplugging them or by using USBDeview to disable the devices
  • USB sim peripherals, such as wheels, pedals, shifters, etc., often confuse older non-sim games where you might expect a controller/gamepad to work but it doesn't
  • Often times, the solution is to disable sim peripherals that are 'silently' powered on eg. pedals, shifters
    • What I mean is, you might power down your wheel base but other peripherals often don't have a way to power them down
    • So these USB peripherals are powered up all the time and 'look like' controllers and gamepads and this is what confuses older games
  • You can disable sim peripherals in the Windows Device Manager or using a tool like USBDeview which can also be scripted from the Windows command-line
