What is Archive.org - The Internet Archive?
- The Internet Archive is a "non-profit library of millions of free texts, movies, software, music, websites, and more." [1]
- Archive.org has become an invaluable source to find and upload sim files files such as mods
- I particularly like the automatic generation of torrent seeds which should help ensure downloads are less likely to be lost to time
- I have started an experiment to host my mods there to see how well Archive.org functions as a download repository (250411)
- I have donated to them and recommend that you do, too, if you find yourself using it more than a few times
Donate to Archive.org - A Good Cause
- Archive.org has already proven themselves valuable as an archival place for many communities across a broad spectrum for many years
Automatically Generated Torrents and Seeding by Internet Archive for Uploads
- When you upload a file to Archive.org, in addition to hosting a direct download they also automatically generate a torrent download and start seeding it, themselves.
- Torrent downloads can be downloaded with an app like qBittorrent available directly or from the handy PortableApps
Example of Hosting Mod Downloads
- I've hosted my own mods on Archive.org here: https://archive.org/details/@darvanshovas
