Updating

  • See "UPDATE EXISTING RSF INSTALLATION" in the Official Download and Install Guide
    • tl;dr
      • Open bittorrent app
      • Remove rsf_installer_files torrent if it's already there
      • Re-add rsf_installer_files torrent
      • qBittorrent will automatically check new or remaining files it needs
        • Manually check by right-clicking torrent and selecting Force Recheck
      • When the torrent is complete you can run the #Install normally
  • Torrent may not have any updates
    • I found even after a few months the torrent didn't have any updates
    • But the RallySimFans Launcher says "Some new and updated features and content in RSF are automatically updated by the game itself (you don't have to do anything). Sometimes a bigger update requires you to run the latest version of Rallysimfans Installer application manually."
    • Check the website to saee if a new installer app is required

tl;dr Beginner's Guide to Richard Burns Rally - Once you've got it installed:

Beginner Driving Tips

  • Disable damage (re-enable when driving confidently)
  • Use automatic transmission (move to manual when driving confidently)
  • Reduce wheel rotation to make catching slides easier eg. Consider moving from 900deg+ to 540deg or less
  • Start with a slower FWD or AWD before moving to RWD (even slow cars move faster than it seems)
  • Start with a dry, dirt or gravel location rather than a wet or snow location
  • Take it slow to start (increase speed as you gain confidence)

Resources

  • Helpful thread - Pedal axes inverted, changing cockpit camera position (hint: double right-click when in cockpit), no need for an account

Errata

RBRPro

  • RBRPro wants to be the state-of-the-art of the RBR modding available today. The mod counts today on a widespread user base in 50+ countries of the world, thanks to its massive multilanguage support (the user interface supports 10 languages with co-drivers in 17+ languages). We are continuously at work to improve the mod, fixing bugs and adding new features.
  • There are some claims of dubious behaviour from RBRPro:
    • taking open source and other free content
    • removing copyrights and renaming them, claiming ownership in the process
    • Some features are also hidden behind a paywall disguised as donations
  • People seem to respect RSF a little more right now
